With sophisticated savvy and singularity, the Los Angeles quartet Saint Motel has built a formidable reputation on the back of inventive indie pop and wildly-fun live shows. Mixing raw energy and rousing rhythms, Saint Motel's aural catharsis is pure bliss with a twist of cynical humor. According to A/J Jackson, singer and creative force behind Saint Motel, the band recently has expanded its repertoire to include “new elements that I would describe as tropical, Latin, big band, retro, that I don't think would have applied to our earlier music.”
This is the way of Saint Motel, not to be held down by stagnancies, but to continue a natural progression. Once the listener is pulled in by the pulsating and joyous melodies, delight can be found in the surprisingly avant-garde lyrical subject matter. Voyeur is lush with stories that reveal themselves through thematic twists and turns with a narrative voice both subversive and sincere. With themes ranging from the lure of plastic surgery, to the dangers of honest feedback, to the taboo bonds of friendship within the Heavenʼs Gate cult, we end up with tongue-in-cheek notions strung together by honest motifs, delivered with charm, often leaving the songʼs meanings open to interpretation.
Jackson admits “while all the songs are based on what many would call ʻabsurdʼ subject matter, many of the songs have various levels of subtext that I hope the listener will decipher with repeated listens. “And so, what might be easily perceived as sexy with one listen, with another might seem mean-spirited or flatly perverse. That is the flair of Saint Motel's rapturous pop and the graceful dichotomy of its existence.

Live At 987
We had a great time playing at 987 studios recently. It's become our home away from home ever since we became July's Artist of the Month. It was the first time we had done a couple of the songs, namely "Benny Goodman" and "1997" in a stripped down arrangement and it was actually really fun. The more subtle aspects of the songs come out that way. The room was packed full of the sunny-faced people who were kind enough to wake up early and drive to Burbank for the show. Tobi Lynn (the super amazing host) , and everyone else with the station were great. Till next time...

Debut Saint Motel Album Out Now!
We're really happy to see our debut full length album, "Voyeur" come out today. It has been a long recording process that included some nightmares and some wet dreams. We started the process of what would ultimately become "Voyeur" two years ago when we were working with a label. We ended up choosing the independent route, recording some of the record with the producer Eric Lilavois and finishing the record by recording ourselves. It was kind of a nerve wracking task. We'd all recorded music before but none of us dared record SAINT MOTEL for fear of doing a bad job. It ended up being a pretty amazing experience. Something that we would recommend to any band.

Introducing: Saint Motel
987 is proud to announce another addition to the 2012 Artist in Residence Program. We're spoiled living in LA these days. The scene is really thriving... Even better is the community that is built around it. Great tastemakers at local venues have been supporting the scene with free shows, repetition, and really putting their name behind a band to support a month long residency.
At 987, we wanted to build on the residency concept and support a new band each month. However, instead of playing a show every week, we're going to give you the opportunity to hear songs and interviews and watch exclusive videos. We're also going to tie the band into all of the music features on 987FM, whether it be co-hosting our New Music Show, guest DJing our commercial free stream, online chats, or exposing them to other Rockaholics via social media.
